A late entry on my part, but here to stay! :)

Ive read both the paper and the action plan, and both look very
comprehensive and well thought out. Good work!!

Since we are still in a bit of an exploratory phase, I feel that
dividing the action plan into phases might work well. So each phase
could have an overall timeline, and within each phase diferent
activities could go on simultaneously.

So just adding to the action plan...
Eg.
Phase 1: (Reearch, Marketing and Funding Sponsorship)
a. Getting expert views and opinions on a project like this and how
best we could roll out. (Like what Ananthanarayana has done).
b. Feeding above input in and developing an overall business plan,
with pilot targets, marketing needs, technical requirements and
financial outlay.
c. Developing an identity: Name, Graphic Identity, Key Objectives
d. Developing collateral material: Maybe a small kit of material,
like an eIntroductory Letter with contact details, Membership or
participatory eapplication (for interested parties to join the
project), website.
e. Create regional and national contact database of manuscript
sources and interpretors.
f. Create regional and national database of possible funding sponsors
g. Allocate marketing roles to different members, based on regions
or personal contacts.

Phase 2: (Formalising the organisation, membership, technical
viability and partners)
a. Infrastructure and office base
b. Better defined roles and responsibilities, maybe even paid
positions
c. Legalisation of entity
d. Technical viability, software partnerships to be formalised.

Phase 3: (Actual translation and digitisation of manuscripts)
This phase could start with an initial pilot target of a number of
manuscripts, followed by reruns of the same.

I will be back in India end July, and will be available to do
groundwork starting August. I live very close to the Mumbai
University in Kalina, and so will contact their Sanskrit Department
to begin with.

Meanwhile here are some contacts of professors in other
universities, who are involved in/have published work on Sanskrit
text interpretations. They could be useful links for us to contact.

Ciao
Sabina

Dear All,
Updating you on the PURA , from Kolkata. Satish and I had a chat
with Mr Chawla , Director,Tribal Wing ,The Art of Living,India. We
had communicated to him the following points:

1. Connect 10 or 12 villages .
2. Provide urban amenities:
water,electricity,sanitation,transport,school,hospital,etc.
3. These amenities will be made affordable to the communities .

Results:
1.Generate rural employment
2.Prevent influx of rural people into cities.
3.Urban people will come to work in the rural belt as urban
facilities are available.
4.Rural areas become self-sustaining units.
5.Rural empowerment results in jointly sustaining modern services.
6.When urban amenities are introduced, large businesses get
attracted to the rural belt.
7.Value of land increases.More facilities come up.Have a prosperous
community.

We had also handed over copies of the papers we'd received at the
Forum
Mr Chawla's take on the subject was as follows:

1.PURA is a good plan, possible in the Southern states where rural
electrification has taken place on a large scale.
2. IYLF members have an open invitation to visit Ghatsila anytime,
spend about four days there , survey the situation, see what are the
possibilities for the implementation of PURA.Mr Chawla would make
all arrangements for food, lodging, transport at Ghatsila, as long as
we pay our way.
3.Land is a burning issue in Jharkhand and the North-East.
4.Land can neither be purchased or leased.
5.Govt. is not willing to give land.
6.Authorities need to be convinced by our actionplan.
7.There are no proper roads or electricity. One must have one's own
jeep to travel.
8.The tribal in Jharkhand is not yet prepared to come into the
mainstrean. In the midst of the changing scenario, he does not know
what to do.

Mr Chawla is open to dialogue with IYLF members. All are invited to
Kolkata. So, what are you waiting for?

Take care!

Sudha
