Just wanted to follow up and say that i went with the Lapinator and am very excited about it.  The customer service was fantastic and the product is even better than i had hoped for.  it is a much lighter and more comfortable product than i had expected based upon the pictures on the web site.  basically, think of it not as a hard/cold platform, but instead a lightweight foam base with structure provided by the foam and a very thin plastic top.  the material that sis on your lap has a Thinsulate (TM) layer to help insulated the heat.

I would say that the heat is lessened significantly, but not elimated.

i am a happy customer (and i haven't even used my mousinizer yet :)
