Summary: Some stuff about Ipswich, UK. Ipswich is about 70 miles North East of London. If anyone has heard of it , it is probably bcause of the local football team, which has won the English Championship, the FA cup and the UEFA cup, because of the Orwell Bridge on the A14 , which regularly crops up on radio traffic reports, as the birth place of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey or as the location for the Great White Horse Inn , which appears in Charles Dickens' Pickwick Papers. It is not immediately obvious when visiting the town , but it is an ancient settlement, having been occupied continuously since Saxon times and receiving a Royal charter from King John in AD1200. These days the town tries to present itself as a centre of high tech industry, the borough council promoting initiatives such as IP City and the Ipswich-Cambridge Hi-tech corridoor. It is not clear whether Cambridge is aware that it is at the other end of the corridoor. Link: Map and arial photography , curtesy of multimap
